Maithili Koparkar & Laurie Di Giulio collaborated on this project to develop this truly unique, innovative approach to dry-land training that has been embraced by swimmers and coaches who have had first-hand experience with the benefits of this practice. They continue to bring their vision to other clubs throughout Ontario.
Maithili Koparkar
Founder of Yogmaya Wellness Incorporated, Maithili was born and raised in India, and was introduced to Yoga at an early age. Though her basic initiation was in the Ashtanga tradition, she has recently adapted to the Vinyasa Flow style. Maithili teaches Yoga and is approved as an instructor, by the Yoga Alliance. She has trained under Michele Cormack of 5 Elements Yoga & Pilates (Brampton). Michele herself has had the tutelage of Shiva Rea, who hails from the famed Krishnamacharya School. The highlight of Maithili’s approach is a seamless synthesis of the Eastern and Western styles for enhanced results. Her instruction is based on aspects that include asanas, pranayama and meditation. Maithili likes to travel extensively and learn about diverse cultures for self enrichment. She is an avid reader who reads Yoga literature and philosophy, technology and business. She is also a doting mother of a young swimmer and a considerate wife. Meditation is her favourite leisure activity. Maithili intends to benefit various age brackets by adapting to their specific needs. She would like to see Yoga evolve without it getting off stream, though she is always open to potential new ideas.
